As we sail into spring, the Children’s Cancer Center would like to recognize the More than Medicine Club at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Bradenton. This community of medical students is dedicated to embracing the psychosocial effects of medicine and shares our belief that when a child is diagnosed, the entire family is diagnosed.
This amazing group of aspiring doctors are regular volunteers at our Sarasota Oncology Family Connection Group and signature fundraising events. They also volunteer for our Big Buddy Program, serving as mentors for the siblings of diagnosed children. The Big Buddy Program prepares medical students for the affects an illness has on the entire family and supports the needs of the siblings that are often overlooked. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the More than Medicine Club for their life-changing mentorship and the memories they provide to local children and families battling pediatric cancer.
