Additional Programs

The Children’s Cancer Center also provides other programs for special needs. For details and guidelines for these services, please get in touch with our Director of Programs and Family Services, Sharin Nelson, at

Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program exists to help decrease the stress and anxiety associated with the holiday season for families who are coping with a medical crisis. Businesses, organizations, families, and individuals agree to “adopt” a family in need during December. CCC acts as a liaison between families and donors to protect each party’s privacy. All unwrapped gifts are brought to CCC for families to pick up.

Struggling families are referred to the program by the hospital/clinic social workers starting in October. Donors are matched with a particular family based on the donor’s ability to provide these needs. The donor is provided a “wish list” including clothes/shoe size, gender, age, interests, immediate household needs, and preferred grocery store. If you are interested in adopting a family for the holidays, please contact Sharin Nelson at

Bereaved families are referred to Suncoast Kids’ Place for various locations and meeting times that are convenient for them.
